Martha L. Houghton - Physical Therapist, Chief Financial Officer
My inspiration was to help people of all ages.
"When I was a child, my older sister worked in a therapy clinic as a secretary. She always came home with wonderful stories about how the therapists helped different patients in different ways. I always knew I wanted to be in a healthcare profession. When it came time to choose which one, it must have been those happy childhood memories that made me enter physical therapy."
My education was just the beginning.
"I had an excellent formal education at the university, but my ongoing continuing education and my patients have really taught me more about physical therapy. I learned that patients like physical therapists who care about them and take time to listen to them and help them overcome their problems. That's why I believe so strongly in personal attention, especially for the young families and children here in south Texas."
Finding new and better ways to help patients.
"We are always looking for more effective techniques in the areas of physical therapy, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy and industrial rehabilitation. That's why we maintain our professional memberships. And we encourage our staff therapists to seek out new and better ways to help our patients. I've found that when we strive to do our best work, our patients benefit most."

Dennis P. Houghton - PT, Chief Executive Operating Officer
Dedication to healthcare runs in my family.
"My older sister went to medical school, and another sister went to school to become an occupational therapist. I was always the athletic one who ended up with a variety of sports injuries. So when it came time to choose my career, physical therapy made the most sense to me. Besides, I always enjoyed talking to people, listening to them and helping them overcome their injuries and conditions."
Continuing education benefits our patients.
"Every time I take another continuing-education course, it benefits the patients. As my knowledge and skill increase, so does my ability to give patients exactly the kind of help they need, using the most up-to-the-minute treatment techniques. That's why I became a disability and work capacity evaluator, too. There is nothing more gratifying than helping an injured father or mother return to work, so they can support their family."
I like working with people of all ages.
"I work with everyone from babies and small children to working adults and geriatric patients. That's why our center specializes in physical therapy, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy and industrial rehabilitation. Those four areas give us the opportunity to help people at any age and in all sorts of different circumstances. Good healthcare should never leave anyone, at any age, out of the picture."
